Broadcast Production Checklist for Live Events (What We Actually Bring)
Every live event we've shot, the ones that went smooth and the ones that almost fell apart, had one thing in common. Whoever ran it either had a real broadcast production checklist for live events or they were winging it and got lucky. We don't wing it. Here's what actually goes on our list before we roll a single cable.
Why a checklist matters more than gear
People think broadcast quality comes down to camera bodies and lens kits. It doesn't. It comes down to whether you thought through every failure point before doors open. A broadcast production checklist for live events isn't paperwork, it's the difference between catching a problem at 2pm when you can still fix it, and catching it at 8:47pm when the artist walks on stage and your feed drops.
We've built our version of this checklist over hundreds of shows, from arena tours to a rapper's pop-up show on a street corner in the Bronx. The details change. The bones don't.
Pre-production: the stuff that saves your ass on show day
This is where most productions cut corners because it's boring. Don't.
- Site survey, virtual or in person. You need to know power access, cell coverage, and where you're physically allowed to set up before you show up with a truck full of gear.
- Bandwidth test at the venue if you can get in early. If not, know your backup connectivity options cold.
- Confirm credentials, load-in times, and who your point of contact is on site. Venues change contacts more than you'd think.
- Run of show, locked and shared with talent, venue, and crew. Everyone should know the timeline before load-in starts.
- Redundant everything. Redundant power, redundant recording, redundant internet paths.

On-site setup: signal, power, redundancy
This is the part where a lot of crews just show up with a phone gimbal and call it a livestream. That's not broadcast production. That's content.

Your on-site checklist should cover:
- Bonded cellular or hybrid connectivity confirmed and tested before doors
- Backup power for every critical piece of gear, not just cameras
- Audio redundancy, board feed plus backup mics, always
- Monitor confirmation, make sure talent and crew can actually see what's going out
- A clear kill switch plan if something goes sideways mid-broadcast

The people you actually need on a live event crew
Gear doesn't run itself. A checklist without the right roles staffed is just a wish list. For most IRL livestream production shoots, you need at minimum a technical director, a camera op who knows live switching, an audio engineer who isn't also doing three other jobs, and someone dedicated to the stream feed itself watching for drops, latency, and quality issues in real time.
For concerts specifically, add a stage liaison who talks to the tour manager directly. Concerts move fast and if your crew doesn't have a direct line to whoever's calling cues backstage, you will miss moments.
